About the farm
Located on the North Coast of Oregon, our small farm hosts over 75 medicinal herbs, a full range of culinary herbs, an abundant vegetable garden, a natural dye garden, and a fruit and berry patch.
The gardens are surrounded by forests and a perennial creek that dreams of salmon and beaver. Our approach to farming promotes biodiversity, both above and below the soil, fostering habitats for native pollinators and the myriad small creatures that call our gardens home. We adhere strictly to organic and ecological growing practices. As a small farm we have direct relationships with our customers and have chosen not to rely on the organic certification label to communicate our values.
After decades of farming all across North America, we moved to Astoria in 2021 to start a farm on the coast. Since 2022 we have brought our produce to local farmers markets and established a farm-grown herbal product line.
We are now excited to welcome our community to visit us with farm stand events and herbal classes.
About Julie
Even as a young child, Julie always loved dandelions. She began farming in 2005, and learned to listen to the plants, observing them closely and tracking their relationships with insects and soil. The deep curiosity fostered in her first garden became the foundation for her farming and herbal career.
In 2020 while working at Oshala Herb Farm in Southern Oregon, Julie completed a comprehensive year-long Herbalism program with Tatum Andrews. She has continued her studies with curiosity and care, currently enrolled as an ongoing student of Family Herbalism at Commonwealth Holistic Herbalism. She has used this knowledge to produce an herbal product line. Julie deeply believes that herbal wisdom belongs in every kitchen, and that herbalism should be accessible to every BODY!
She also works part-time as an Outdoor Preschool educator at North Coast Nature School, just because she loves children. She took a detour from farming for a few years while diving deeply into Nature Connection practices. She ran an outdoor preschool program at Outside Now for 5 years and took a three-year long Forest Kindergarten teacher training.
About John
John’s passion for farming is rooted in the soil. The web of soil life fascinates him, and he is often found reading books about compost, compost teas, and microscopic biota and fungi. He is always brewing up new and improved compost teas to feed the soil life that nourishes the vegetables and herbs.
He has been growing nutrient-dense organic vegetables for over 30 years. In 2023 he began cultivating mushrooms and learning a whole new web of life from the point of view of mycelium.
John is the builder of all things on the farm and when he’s not farming, he is often writing poetry and watching the birds.
